Kohanga recently held its end of year hakari for playgroup and our tamariki program. Both programs provided demonstrations for their whanau of their learning including our tamariki running workshops on taonga takaro and a mau rakau demo. Tino too much tamariki! We will return in 2012!

Saturday was our last program for the year 2011. We have our hakari next Saturday 17 December with our playgroup, from 9.30am. Tamariki were all prepping themselves for the hakari!

Tamariki Kohanga on Saturdays….

Our Saturday tamariki program is going strong. This week we made Koru templates which will be used to create a design for our tshirts, and all tamariki will have their koru as a cental feature of the design! We also played some more traditional maori games including te reina; poi rakau and our own junior training version of ki o rahi – Ki! Check out the pics!

Tamariki ma!

Te Kohanga ote whenua hou has started the “tamariki Kohanga” program for Primary school aged tamariki. Lessons cover kapahaka, te reo, toi mahi and taonga takaro, and tamariki learn only one thing per lesson area per week! The focus is on fun, enjoyment and whakawhanaungatanga for our tamariki. Check out our photos of the first three classes.

Tamariki learned taonga takaro of putahi; poi toa and Mu torere. Nga tane learned the haka ‘ka mate’ whilst nga kotiro have been practising the poi! Reo kupu includes, whanau; kia ora and tena koe/korua/koutou. Tamariki have also begun developing a koru for their tshirts! Join us every Saturday from 9.30am for tamariki Kohanga. Cost is $2 per child and kai to share (healthy food please!).

Tamariki Kohanga is trialling a Saturday program for Primary school aged tamariki. Lesson areas cover te reo, kapahaka, toi mahi & taonga takaro. The kaupapa is “one thing’ so only one learning is added each week to each lesson area. Tamariki will also learn pepeha, mihi, tikanga and whanaungatanga during the program. Kai time encourages healthy food, particularly homemade kai and kai maori. Tamariki Kohanga meets at the whare every Saturday from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Cost is $2 per child. Kohanga Playgroup going strong!

Kohanga playgroup has been meeting every Wednesday for whanau to learn a little reo, toi mahi and taonga takaro for the tamariki. Check out our collection of photos from the last few months. Te Kohanga ote whenua hou will hold its 2011 Christmas hakari at the Kohanga whare on Saturday 17 December from 3.30pm for tamariki to show their whanau all the things they learned this year. The tamariki have been learning some new waiata, haka and poi in preparation!
