He Kaupapa whakahou 2013

Te Kohanga ote whenua hou announces its major project for 2013 is a renovation of our whare.

In 2003 Te Kohanga ote whenua hou moved into its current location at Geebung having recieved a long term lease from Brisbane City Council and conducting a major refit of the building to suit our needs. Since that time our whare has had small structural works done but is now, after 10 years, in desperate need of major renovations to address many issues within the building. Consequently Te Kohanga has partnered with several local, corporate and Government agencies to renovate and reinvigorate our whare.

Throughout this year Te Kohanga ote whenua hou has sourced a number of people to tautoko this kaupapa, including the creation of a specialist team led by an architect. Our project leader and architect is Jessica Clare Graham who has volunteered her skills and expertise to developing and implementing the “He kaupapa whakahou” project. Jessica joins us with lots of experience, passion and enthusiasm for community development and voluntary participatory projects that enhance and create positive opportunities for community. Te Kohanga welcomes Jessica to our whanau and looks forward to a fruitful and exciting project in 2013.

Jessica has also developed original building designs to be used with builders and grant applications. Check them out here.
